La Manga, in the south-east of the province of Murcia, on the east coast of Spain, is a twenty two kilometer long strip which separates the Mediterranean Sea from the Mar Menor, a salty lagoon with shallow and protected waters.
Due to its extension La Manga del Mar Menor belongs to different Spanish municipalities, the biggest of them the harbor city of Cartagena. Although the lagoon is connected with the Mediterranean it has got a relatively high salinity. Travelers who do not want to depend on public transport can opt for a hire car.
