Necrópolis Romana y Paleocristiana, a major archaeological discovery.
The necropolis was used as the city's cemetery from the Roman era until the 7th century.
Archaeological excavations between 1923 and 1933 revealed the site of a major Paleochristian cemetery. This necropolis was used during the Roman era up until the 7th century. Remains of different pagan and Christian graves have been discovered, including sarcophagus, amphora tombs etc. The majority of these finds can be seen in Tarragona's Archaeological Museum.
The best exhibits from the necropolis are housed in Tarragona's Archaeological Museum, including a the Leones sarcophagus, San Pablo sarcophagus and San Pedro sarcophagus.
