Gateway to the Costa del Sol
Malaga international airport is located less than seven kilometers from the city center. It is the most important airport in Andalusia. Also known as Costa del Sol airport it serves many popular tourist resorts both on the east coast of Malaga like Torrox, Nerja and Almuñecar and cities like Torremolinos, Benalmadena, Fuengirola, Mijas, Marbella and Estepona on the western part of the Costa del Sol.
The airport of Malaga is also frequently used for people travelling to other capital cities in southern Spain like Granada, Almeria, Cordoba or Seville.
The modern new terminal at Malaga airport is connected to the old terminals and was inaugurated in the year 2010. Most flights arriving from or departing to European destinations are handled at the new T3 terminal. The old terminals are used by some of the budget airlines like Ryanair or Easyjet and by airlines offering flights to destinations outside the EU.
The airport offers all kind of facilities which can be expected from such modern installations. There is a wide selection of restaurants and bars available and duty free shops for those who want to save some money on purchases like tobacco or perfums.
Malaga is one of europe's most popular car rental destinations. No wonder, that the world's leading car hire companies like Avis, Herz, Enterprise or Europcar can be found in the terminal building.
Malaga airport also offers a frequent and reliable train service, both to the Maria Zambrano highspeed train station in the center of Malaga and to Fuengirola on the western part of the coast, with stops in Torremolinos and Benalmadena.
For destinations further along the western coast like Marbella and Estepona you will either have to take the train to Fuengirola and from there a bus service or take the bus straight from Malaga airport. There is a regular and direct airport transfer service available to Marbella. More information can be found at the tourist office inside the terminal building.
Tourists travelling to resorts on the eastern part of the Costa del Sol or inland Andalusia will have to travel first to the busstation in Malaga from where busses are departing to many different destinations in Spain.
The taxi stand can be found in front of the arrival's hall at Malaga airport. Taxis in Malaga are relatively cheap and there is an official pricelist which all taxidrivers should have in their vehicle. Make sure to take an official taxi and avoid the service offered by illegal taxis.
