Cheap car rental in Puerto Rico with Hispacar.com

Puerto Rico is an island located in the Caribbean Sea to the west of the U.S. Virgin Islands and east of the Dominican Republic.

It is the most eastern island of the Greater Antilles. The island is mostly mountainous and surrounded by deep oceans. Apart from the main island Puerto Rico includes smaller islands like Culebra, Vieques, Mona or Palomino.

The capital of the island is San Juan. It is one of the biggest natural harbours in the Caribbean Sea. Other cities and place worthwhile visiting on the island are Mayagüez, Carolina, Arecibo, Bayamón, Fajardo, Luquillo, La Parguera, Ponce or Camuy.

The main airport of Puerto Rico is located in Carolina and not far from San Juan, but there are also smaller airports in Ponce and Aguadilla. Most visitors decide to rent a car on Puerto Rico, because public transportation in San Juan is unreliable and in the more remote areas of the island there are often no scheduled buses.

Car hire companies like Avis, Hertz, Enterprise, Dollar or Budget can be found at San Juan airport and in all mayor resort cities on the island. Rental vehicles are relatively cheap. It is a good idea to add a collision damage insurance (CDW) to the rental agreement, although US citizens may have a coverage included in there mainland car insurance. Compare the prices and the insurance coverage before you book, it will save you money when you collect the rental car at your arrival on Puerto Rico.

The roads in Puerto Rico are not very well maintained, especially outside the metropolitan area. Distances are in kilometres and road signs in spanish. Puerto Rico is a natural paradise and you should not miss some of the most beautiful natural parks on the islands, like the Guánica State Forest or the El Yunque National Forest. The capital San Juan offers some of the best preserved and oldest fortifications of the Caribbean.
